Britannia Class at Appleby today
by davidtrout
Like Cliff I was out at the lineside photgraphing Britannia Class Pacific Oliver Cromwell on a special express today. I caught it at Appleby on the Settle and Carlisle line late this afternoon. Thanks to Pete Weber for directions to a lineside spot at Shap earlier. Lighting conditions were better at Appleby than Shap.

Hello David,
Another good pic here.
Reading your EXIF data you were up against it for the light, f5 @ 1/160- so it must have been grim at Greenholme/Shap.
Nevertheless, hope you enjoyed the sight (and smells) of this one.
Regards
Peter

There was no shortage of light at Shap Peter. The sun was shining almost directly into the lens and the quality of my pictures there wasn't too good. At Appleby the train was moving slowly and not charging up the bank full pelt as it was on the climb to Shap.

PS Just to see and hear the Britannia working really hard with 13 coaches on the climb to Shap at about 40mph was terrific.
If I can rescue one of the RAW images from Shap that's worth public viewing I'll post one later.
