I like the idea of this shot, but it just needs to be a little sharper to make the chives really stand out against the background.

Keep at it and it will come! It takes a lot of practice to perfect camera skills, but once you have it sorted it will be with you always! The EXIF data on this image does not tell us the aperture used, but it looks to me a very wide one as the depth of focus is very narrow. It may help if you use a smaller aperture until you get more comfortable with the focussing, this will ensure more of the image is in focus.

I can't remember what the aperture was set on as I tend to try lots of settings, I may get there one day, but if I don't I always have great fun trying. Thanks again for the advise, Steve

That's what it's all about, fun, this is a lovely shot, if it was mine i would have used f8-10 you might need the tripod though.
