Galatea at Ais Gill

Fine dry cold weather, TWO steam engines and a £10 train ticket all combined to pull me from my warm fire-side to the windy spot at remote Ais Gill on the Settle-Carlisle railway line. I think the effort was worthwhile to capture this fine sight.
Ex-LMS No. 45699 'Galatea' is seen working hard just before the summit of the line on the return leg of "The Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express" from Carlisle to London on Saturday 24th February 2018.
The other train I went to see was supposed to be hauled by No. 60163 'Tornado', but due to a fault with electronic safety equipment, she was led by a diesel locomotive and the wind blew the steam towards me and partially obscured the loco anyway.

A classic view of a Jubilee approaching Ais Gill Peter - in black and white this could be an original Eric Treacy shot, even down to the backdrop of Wild Boar Fell. I got this at Carnforth earlier in the day and later climbiung towards you at Ais Gill at Kirkby Stephen. I also shot Tornado crossing Ribblehead Viaduct, complete with diesel pilot.
If you travelled by train how did you get to Ais Gill - did you take your bike on the train with you.

A fine image Peter, I drove past this location thinking that there was a high risk of the exhaust blowing across and down here but it paid off for you.
