Bearded branch

by PeterKR

Many of the trees in the gardens at Inverary Castle had this lichen (?) hanging from the branches.
I asked one of the gardeners what it was and was told that it is called 'Old Man's Beard' and it only grows where the air is very clean.
I later saw more of it growing on the bushes alongside Loch Awe so the air in this part of Scotland must be good for you !

Curious stuff. You'd better get some good lungfuls of that air before coming home.

You should have bottled it (the air) nice spotting!

Many thanks for the comments, David & Maria.

Alas we are now back home and I didn't bottle any of the Scottish air !
However, I did bring back some Old Man's Beard that I found at the roadside, so I have that as a souvenir.

Thanks again
Peter
