Absolutely great picture Andrew. Idon't know how you convert your BW shots, but your formula certainly hits the mark. I think it is the conversion as much as the composition that makes this picture stand out.

T%hanks folks. The light was so flat and dim that I needed quite a levels boost in Photoshop. This affected the colours, making them unreal so a b/w conversion was the best way to go. The landscape lends itself to monochrome anyway.
I've an early version of Photoshop CS which lacks the brilliant mono conversion package of CS3 and beyond so I use two hue/stauration layers and blend them together until the shot looks "right".
