Riverview hospital

by VividArt

This is the closed down Riverview mental hospital. The building was scheduled for demolition many years ago, but the cost to remove the asbestos first has kept this building standing. It is now used as a movie set. The are about 20 buildings on this property, most abandoned. The place has a very bad reputation - in the 90's they released most of the patients onto the street, all of which had been institutionalized most of their lives and had no business being on the street. It is a very shameful part of Vancouver history. Now these people roam the street with shopping carts...

Oh yes, this hits the spot for me. Thanks for the info, a sad indictment of the neo-liberal policies that dominate the political landscape nowdays

A sad story indeed, those poor people, the shot and treatment of your picture depicts this so well, the sky adding to the atmosphere.
