Revisited

by AxelLuther

Last time, I was in this church, I was thrown-out after two pictures (NO TRIPODS SIR!!!). This time I was able to shoot 5-6. The problem is, it is always very hectical to get some pics before you get a friendly reminder, that good photo equipment is not wanted in this building.....
The photophobe building is the dome of Cologne (for me still rank 1 in the list of places where photographers are not at all welcome)

Seems all my favourite photographers have checked in this morning - are you all off for Xmas too?

Your HDR technique works fantastically well in these situations, and I suppose its a requirement in such poorly lit high detail buildings.

Like this shot a lot particularly the 'ghosts'

I love this shot, the ghostly people really add to the sense of scale and drama in the image, top quality HDR as we expect from you Axel

Glorious shot, Axel. I dream one day of visiting thios wonderful catherdral: it's right up there with Wells, Lincoln and the French ones.
Best wishes,

Andrew

Such a wonderful shot, i suppose we should give thanks that we are allowed to take shots in any of the Churches, it was unheard of at one time, can you explain why a tripod isn't allowed ?

Hi Maria - two times, when I was asked to stop shooting with a tripod, I got an honest answer (and about 10 times I heard some faked reasons). The owner (catholic church) assumes that when you shoot with a tripod and a DSLR, you are going to produce high-class pictures which you might want to use for commercial reasons and they don't want that you potentially earn some money with selling pics of a church without their participation. The reason is not, that they want to prevent photographies during ceremonies (especially as I always took my pictures during public visiting times when the church is anyway croweded by hundreds of tourists/visitors).

Thanks for the info Axel, i thought it may have had something to do with health and safety, maybe the congregation tripping over the tripod

Excellent shot as always.
Maybe they don't allow the tripod because it would be unpleasant to the official photographer, if it turned out that someone can take a better picture than he.
You should visit these churches with a friend, who drew the attention of the guards to himself with his tripod meanwhiile you can work free.

Gábor
