This is my antique lathe which is 100 years old sometime this year and which has been in constant service for the whole of its life

Nice conversion to "V" pulleys. That would have been driven by a flat leather belt from overhead wheels on a shaft that most likely drove a few lathes and was powered by an outside steam engine.
When I started my indentured apprenticeship we still had a few old lathes like that driven by overhead belts but converted to a large electric motor at the end of the line driving the pulley shaft.
Each apprentice was tarted on these to learn the basics before being let loose on more modern machinery.

Nice! I like the design. I have the same feelings about my lathe, almost as old. Part of it still uses a flat homemade belt. Endlessly adjustable machine, very useful
I like how much light you have on yours, mine is a corner with crappy light...

Just as an addition. Take the tool post off and mount the job (casting etc.) on the compound table instead and the tool. Milling cutter drill etc. in the chuck and you have a milling machine / Boring machine. The old lathes surely were the grandfather of the machine tool family. So versatile.

We had flat belts as well with a foot operated clutch, to stop ,kick the clutch and grab hold of the belt Hoping you didn't grab hold of join.

Nice to see so many people like it.
It was originally treadle operated and sat on its own, purpose made cast iron frame. Vic comments about using it for all manner of things. He's right. You can even use it to turn a cube -- work that one out !

Excellent preserved lathe for wood! The only "new" is added to the pulleys, due to electric drive! Today, we do not manufacture the machines, which would be useful function over 5 years! ?? Sadly ???
