NIce sharp shot, Jon. It is really high detailed. I like the blurred greenish-yellowish background. Did you used a blur effect?

I can understand why you might think a 'blur filter' had been applied, Gábor, but what you see is what was captured on the camera sensor. Like many of us, I'm sure, I accumulate many more images that I have time to 'develop' (I use RAW 95% of the time) and this particular one was actually taken in August 2008, having been 'overlooked' when I first examined the files. I just happened to be browsing the parent folder last night when I realised that many of the images I had 'rejected' during my original perusal were better than I had first thought .

Like you, I was really struck by the colour and 'creamy' blurring of the background, which, IMHO, elevated a fairly pedestrian capture of a dragonfly into something altogether more visually pleasing and likely to have wider appeal: hence my decision to upload it to the gallery.

I though about disembling a little by telling you that I deliberatly chose the aperture, point of focus and lens to subject distance to acheive the effect, but realised that you are far to smart to be taken in by such blatant 'puffery' and that I value our 'virtual frienship' too highly to risk jeopardising it

What a beautiful shot! Love the rendition of the exact golden colour and shine!

Anyhow you take it, I like it. Sometimes the pictures don't seem to good enough at first time. But if you look at them later, you can find some really good one among them. Like this one.
