Mapledurham Weir

by PeterKR

Another shot from Mapledurham last month.
Centre is the upstream side of the weir on the main flow of The Thames and in the distance is Mapledurham Lock.
The clear water in the foreground is the entrance to the mill stream running off to the left.

Lovely clear image Peter, with good foreground detail that gives it depth. I also like the choice of aperture (F5.6) which demonstrates you don't need to go down to F16 or more to get everything in focus when using a wide angle lens. The lens will perform best between around F5.6 and F11.

Many thanks for the comments, David, always most welcome.

I tend to be a bit boring and stick with F8 for most of the time but for this one, whilst I wanted to include the bottom and right foreground I wanted to lose a bit of sharpness there to draw the eye forward. I therefore opened up to F5.6 but tilted the camera to lose the foreground before setting the autofocus on the distant view. Then, still holding the button halfway, I composed the final shot before firing.

Thanks again
Best regards

Fabulously clear shot and f.6 worked really well, i don't know what lens but i'm sure mine wouldn't work as well as this.

Many thanks, Maria.

This was taken with the DA18-135 'Kit lens' which came with my K50 a year ago !

I've been really pleased with it and it rarely comes off the camera as it seems to perform well at ALL zooms from 18-135 !
This lens got some bad reviews when it first came out so I guess they must have tweaked something in the manufacturing process ?

Thanks again
Best regards
Peter
