Man-Made

by AxelLuther

The Afsluitdijk is a major causeway in the Netherlands, constructed between 1927 and 1933. It has a length of 32 kilometres (20 mi) and a width of 90 m, at an initial height of 7.25 m above sea-level. Hard to believe that this is completely man-made. Feels very special to drive more then 30 km on a road with no curves in the middle of two seas.

As you say, must be a great experience to drive between two seas. Wonderful colour, sea and sky! Does the horizon need a little tilt?

One of these days I'll get around to seeing a little more of this country!

I should perhaps mention one detail. This Photo I took from a view tower at the beginning of the construction. Only from this twoer you see both seas. The car parc on the left side is aout 3 m higher than the highway. When you drive on this road, you see the right sea and when you look to the other side, you only see the green dike . however - it is still a special feeling to drive on this thing

yep (it seems that I do HDR-free photos only in exceptional cases )

One sea is actually a fresh water lake.

I drive over it regularly to visit my son. Always a thrill with big skies, stunning sunsets but, more often than not, driving rain .

I never stop though. Must do that one of these trips.

Nice HDR - not overdone

true - but I always thought that it was originally a bay of the North sea that only became a freshwater lake after this dam was completed and the "lake" was cut-off from the North Sea. However - it is REALLY big - looks very much like a sea
