Mam Tor

by Northgrain

Mam Tor in the Peak District at dawn. Four bracketed shots processed in Photomatix. I'm still not sure about HDR... need to try some more and get a better feel for using photomatix for a relatively 'natural' look.

It's a beautiful shot but, in my opinion, HDR works better on buildings than in a natural environment. No doubt there are those who would disagree.

Very beautiful Tim, the light at this time in the morning is special.

Since getting a K-5 I find that HDR for me has become virtually redundant, due to the scope the sensor gives in terms of dynamic range. I have experimented by processing 'difficult' shots in HDR (Photomatix 4.1) and the same shot via the more traditional approach in Adobe Camera RAW and Photoshop. I almost always prefer the 'traditional' route and now only use HDR for specific effects such as Tonemapping on portraits.

I wouldn't have known it was HDR, a super compo i like the house lights in the background too that show how early in the morning it is.
