Is there a story behind this, Patrick? They look to be in pairs rather than lonely lost single ones.
I'd crop the sky out myself, it's an awfully depressing one and takes my eye from the jolly boots

the sign indicates a b&b - it seems that a few clients left old boots behind, and the keepers just hooked them on the post ...
