I 'think' this is a wood blewitt (but dont take my word for it). What is it behind the snail, an old pine cone? The colour of the mushroom stem has come through perfectly - nice pic.

hi clare the object behind the snail is a very old rotton stump,by the way i had a book arrive today about these fungi and i still havnt a clue thanks for looking .brian

If you want to eat wild fungi I suggest several books, which one did you buy?
