Extinct volcanoes

by Blaze

This is Tuillière & Sanadoire, an extinct volcano in the Auvergne region of France.
I couldn't remove the bits of grass as there was a death-defying steep drop ....

Love the view down in to the valley and that beautiful sky.

This is fantastic! What a compositional opportunity. You've balanced the sky and ground nicely - did you use an ND grad or is done in PP? And you've found that all important foreground with the grass, so I think it is fine.

One thing (hope you don't mind)- like most shots taken at this time of day in sunshine, the horizon line has taken on a colour cast, which is probably unnatural. I have found it very effective to target this area and improve it:

in PS you could make a selection of just that strip between the deep blue sky and the distant hills, then use Hue/Saturation to lower the cyan and blue channels (increase luminance also if needed).
This should give a more natural tone to that area.

It can also be helpful while the selection is active to try a bit of contrast boost - this cuts through the haze as our eyes would do.

Thank you all for the kind comments.

Nigel - I did a little PP to enhance the sky. I'll have a play with it and see if I can improve the blue strip. Looking at the original, which lacked contrast, I can see the difference in the colour tone of the blue strip.
Thanks for the suggestions
