Dashing Deltic
by pgweber
Most of the railway photographers on here seem to stick with steam. I can understand why as a steam engine at full pelt is a sight to behold.
I don't remember "real" steam but fondly remember many diesel classes which are now found only on preserved lines or like this on occasional day trips on the main line.
This is one of the diesel locomotives which displaced steam engines from the London to Edinburgh route in the early 1960s to be displaced itself in the early 1980s.
Class 55 'Deltic' diesel No. 55022 "Royal Scots Grey" passes South of Newark with the return leg of a London to Newcastle day trip, back on its' old stamping ground on 11th September 2010.
Shot as a PEF using K10D+16-45.

I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE ENGINES PETER, BUT THIS IS QUITE NICE AS IT DEPICTS THE WHOLE OF THE TRAIN BEAUTIFULLY.

Thanks for your comments, Cliff and Nezih
I do prefer the more compressed head-on (or at a slight angle) viewpoint. Unfortunately there was a lot of glare/reflection from the side of the trains, so I went for this side-on shot.

Peter

Thats in the cropping, Nezih. I find it difficult to judge the right focal length to fill the frame in side-on views, especially when I am not sure how many carriages the train will have.BUT THIS IS QUITE NICE AS IT DEPICTS THE WHOLE OF THE TRAIN BEAUTIFULLY.

I like this shot of yours, John:

You have used that problematic reflection to add something to your view of a fine engine.
