Colwick Coronation
by pgweber
Passing through Colwick (Near Nottingham), where once there was a massive railway yard, Ex LMS 4-6-2 No.6233 'Duchess of Sutherland' leads a day trip from Derby to London Kings Cross.
This shot is from 17th October 2009, hence the engine is seen in its' maroon livery which was replaced by black for 2010.
I have tried to make the best of a tricky shot here, by lightening the shadows and darkening the highlights, but the lesson is don't shoot against the sky (by looking down from a bridge instead).

You've done a good job recovering detail Peter. The Duchess, now black, is undergoing its 10-year overhaul as far as I'm aware and won't be out on the mainline for a while.

Thank you John, David & John for your kind comments.
As David says, the Duchess is undergoing overhaul, so you will have to look out for Princess Elizabeth if you like the big Ex-LMS engines.
I believe Lizzy is going from Crewe via Manchester to Carlisle tomorrow, out via Shap, back via S & C.

Thank you too, to Rees & Cliff.
I read somewhere Cliff, that a paint job was needed to see her through the last year of the boiler ticket and that since black was somewhat cheaper than a new coat of Crimson Lake, that was chosen for 2010.
