This should be in portrait but was my first rather hurried attempt at such a shot.
Uncropped and little pp.
Any comments/advice as to how I could improve it would be welcome!

No, it as jpeg - it was pure chance I saw them standing there and just snapped.
I'll go back to the original and try a square crop.

A square crop might work well. It is a lovely image.

Excellent shot and even more so for an impromptue one. You have great tones and contrast but a square crop would be better as Andrew says. You could try burning a litle detail into the stone, but go easy with it.

As you know I think this is an outstanding capture. Luckily I have seen the unprocessed original and the final version should be something a bit special.

I'm absolutely overwhelmed by the response to my photo.
DrOrloff has seen my attempts to improve since I bought the Kx in April and it's been a long haul.
I believe that so much in shots of people or animals is the luck in capturing that moment. I just wish I'd had time to perhaps zoom out a little, and perhaps make it a portrait shot. At least zooming out would have given more options for cropping.
It's certainly inspired me to have another go - thanks everyone

I think this shot is wonderful, i agree with the other's about the crop, i'm certainly no expert, but the b/w of the child and the pig is spot on, i love it.

It's often the case a grab shot works best, agree needs areas to left and right need cropping to square format, well seen and taken,lovely image.Works in B&W.
