Billy goat
by Blaze
These are Alpine Goats which although they come from the mountains, are widely seen in the Loire Valley.
It is the most common goat in France and 55% of the females are used commercially for milk.
Goat meat is also not uncommon here.

Handsome creature, I havent seen many brown goats either and he doesnt seem as romanesque as the anglo -nubian goats, are they farmed for milk, meat, both?

Thank you both . They are either reared for meat or as future stud goats as they are all uncastrated males and there are about a dozen of them in a large field. They're magnificent looking, very well kept animals. However, when I drive past, the goat smell is extremely strong ! I've put what they are in the Photo Info box.

Very sharp - I would guess you took that the 55-300mm lens? I uploaded some similar ones of rare breed sheep a while back taken with the 55-300 - it seems to suit subjects like this. Good photo.

Yes, David, it was the 55-300. It's useful when you don't want to get too close - one of them had a rather nasty looking horn
I find at longer distances it's better to use a support of some sort !
