The patterns thrown up by the light on the wall are what did it for me, plus the centre placement of the lantern, so that the eye goes back and forth between the Cause and the Effect. Like.

Superb still life - you've done a great job in controlling the exposure and the colours. Definitely a strong candidate for POTW.

I like the lighting effects and as other have said the story - I also like the way the grain in the surface and the bits of crud have been subtly highlighted.
If you don't ask you'll never know
