A happy fly.

With the car in the garage and an overcast day, thought it was a good time to try out my new weather sealed 100mm macro lens and take a walk around Bradiford to see what flowers I could capture. As I set up for this shot a fly turned up - bonus! My knowledge of both fly's and flowers are pretty slim, so any ides are very welcome.

Greater Stitchwort grows in woods, roadside verges, hedgerows and grassy banks. It has many other common names including 'Wedding Cakes', 'Star-of-Bethlehem', 'Daddy's-shirt-buttons' and 'Snapdragon' - the latter because its stems are brittle and easily break. It's pretty star-shaped, white flowers bloom from April to June; as the seed capsules ripen, they can be heard 'popping' in late spring.

What I really like about this shot is the compositional element. I have a bit of a thing about disliking macros that are all about 'extreme close up', this one is the opposite and all the better for it! I would crop it a tiny bit more on the right, to balance the space between the flower and the edge of the frame at both sides of the image. This is nit-picking and just my OCD kicking in!

Thanks David, as always your input is very appreciated (Especially on Macro). Macro is a new subject to me and know I have a lot to learn just from my first outing. Try to be as creative as I can and you're absolutely right, just cropped it at home as suggested and the composition looks far better!
