A Castle a Carlisle
by davidtrout
Ex GWR Castle Class steam loco Earl of Mount Edgcumbe rolls The Caledonian charter expres into Carlisle Citadel Station last Saturday after a run up the West Coast Main Line.
Rail fans argue over the correct liveries for various preserved steam engines, I reckon they all look good in black and white.

Spot on David, I'm not a mono fan but this one is just right.

Can I be nosy and ask how you converted this one David? Those front buffers are interesting!.
Cliff, I converted it to mono in the RAw converter. It was quite a contrasty image because the sun was bright and I was shooting straight into the light. I used the lassoe tool to select areas for increasing or decreasing exposure/contrast to bring out detail. Can I be nosy and ask how you converted this one David? Those front buffers are interesting!.
The buffers were interesting, I got a close up of them when the train came to to a halt. I think the GWR logo must have been etched into the metal of the buffers. Very original.

Never noticed the buffers before David, your processing has brought the etching out nicely, well captured Sir.

Nice composition and conversion. It works for me in B/W.

It's a bold composition and I like the glints on the boiler side and buffers.
