"Siora Veronica"(Lady Veronica)-Second version

“Siora Veronica”: Mirror translation “Lady Veronica”. This Veliero (sailing ship or sailer) was built in 1926-1927 at Peschiera del Garda (Italy), a lovely town that lies on the lakeside of Garda. It was used to carry goods(oil, wine) cattle and peoples through the lake as at those times there were no roads connecting different parts of the lake. In ‘30s, when these roads around lake were completed…and later in ’40-45s when WW2 fired…this boat was no longer used(at those times fleet crossing Lake of Garda, of these Velieros was about 100 units). It has been restored in 2001 and used to transport tourists across the lake(or for weddings, meetings). I have taken a lot of photos of this “Cruiser of the Garda Lake” but it was always so far; so I was not able to use these captures in a proper way. On Aug. 25 th, 2012 I was in Cassone (a small village close to Garda Lake) when “Siora Veronica” appeared so close to my eyes that it was possible to take three pictures at 10-15 meters of distance from the coast…..Water is deep enough to allow such behavior. In these cases the Captain “horns” and this is called “inchino”……(A few months ago it happened the same in Mediterranean Sea but something wrong occurred. Do you remember Captain Schettino and Costa Concordia)? However I took 3 captures in analogic BW using my Pentax LX and Pentax Lens 28mm. Hand-held camera on monopod. Kodak TMAX 400 ISO Film. F: 8 Shutter Speed: 1/125. It was an almost cloudy day even if in summer. Sometimes appeared sun. It was very HOT and WET!!! I have processed this film in my own darkroom and then I printed 3 photo papers using Ilford Paper FC Baritate Multigrade Warm Tone. These results were too much scientific IMHO. When I looked at this Veliero in Cassone I imagined to be in the 18th century. I imagined a Ghost Boat coming out from fog…Pyrates and so on!! I was looking for something special and old when managing these photos in darkroom. So I scanned files using Epson Perfection 3200; in Alien Skin BW software (Vintage-Glow & Sepia) I gave this effect. The boat seems to arise from fog….. It comes from the past. Fog is a “must” in winter and a lot of times I looked at similar scenes in this part of the lake looking at North (Riva del Garda). I hope you like this result. By the way: warm tones I got printing these analogic captures on Ilford Warm Tone paper suggested me to use a sepia processing in digital. Sorry for this “light”manipulation.
