Is this a new lens you are using, Peter? I have been recently considering a lens in this range. Looks like this Sigma 18 - 250 is a nice choice.

Many thanks for the kind comments.

The Castle Gardens at Alnwick are well worth a visit, with a great variety of different themes.
The 'Poison Garden' is their special attraction where you are only allowed entry in guided tours (and you must NOT touch the plants !)
Many of the roses in the Rose garden were past their best when we visited but I was lucky enough to find some still in their glory.
