Zeiss Jena Sonnar, bubble bursting?
The East German Company made lenses and binoculars for the West German Company even after the war.
The only lenses they don't have in their archives are the one's imported seperately from Japan by the UK branch.

The designs were of course snapped up by the Soviets immediately post-WW2, leading to a lot of cloned lenses.

They snapped up a lot more than the designs..... they moved the whole factory along with the German technicians to Russia after first assembling everything and getting full production going in East Germany first. Some of that gear (made in East Germany) is of extremely high quality and goes for good prices. This is a fascinating read.
The CZ period 1945-195x would make a very good film.

I've seen that one before. It's a bit hard to follow and if he hasn't repeated each shot several times and picked the best, not much use.

No sorry that's not the one the guy used the graphs, I've been looking for it again, if I find it I'll post the link as it makes for very interecting reading. I feel sometimes a lens reputation can sometimes spread without any basis in fact.

Just noticed:
=============================================
"I did 2 series of shots per (manual) lens.
I defocused them before refocusing them again,
using my Haoda focusing prism screen.
I have published the two sets of shots
for comparison. ISO100 for everyone.
All the lens had hoods on."

Two shots is not really enough, but at least
he re-focused. Non of them seem to have the roof in
focus?

I know people who are desperately chasing new Zeiss-branded lenses for other DSLRs at thousands of pounds a go, when I seriously doubt they're any better than Pentax * or Ltd lenses.
