Z1 shutter won't fire.

I tried to use my old Z1 film camera today (with a new battery) and everything was working fine..menu/autofocus, but when I pressed the shutter button the mirror flipped up but no shutter sound.

The camera is now stuck with the mirror in the up position. I removed the battery and tried again later but the shutter wont fire... I just get a sound of a motor trying to do something when I press the shutter release.

Anyone else had this crop up before ?

Yes.
I think the term is "uneconomic to repair".

Its now sitting there waiting to be a donor.

If you do find a solution less than the cost of one from ebay please post it up.

Same as you, not used for a while, new battery and it clicked once then just whirred away. Like something is broken or a thread/cog has been stripped or ....... whatever.

Thanks for that doug. I did make a habit of operating all my old cameras at least once a year. I geuss it's time was up. To be honest I am not sure if I will replace it. My first Pentax , an MX from 1980 is still going strong... see thread in Film Camera section.
