Yet another thread shut down with no reason given.
the thread closed.

All that was needed was a mod. to have the courtesy to add another post to the thread before closure, explaining the decision. Is that too much to ask?
I agree.
Even within the constraints of "we don't discuss moderation decisions", it would seem less arbitrary and capricious to at least give a reason, even if no further discussion was entered into.
They don't have to, but it would be nice if they did.
As far as
Whatever happened to a little democracy around here?
goes, there is none. It goes with the territory - we're here as guests, not by right.

It's time we stopped wasting time talking inwardly about how things are decided and went back to a healthy discussion about photography.
There is no need to be overly sensitive. You could have just asked by PM and it could be clarified, you don't need to start it off all over again.

I would be much more likly to leave because of the Whingeing than the moderating, and if I was leaving because I didn't like it here I would just leave.
I totally agree with that Bill.

I have now added an explanation to the thread in question.
Even I could see it was just going round in circles but it would have been nice if the explanation had been posted as the thread was locked.
Just common courtesy to the posters taking part I would have thought.

Some of us have been here a very long time Bill, and can remember the days when it was a more pleasant experience to be here.
I'd like those days to return.
If we don't openly discuss the points we dislike, they'll never get resolved, especially using the private messaging system.

But notice, chaps... you've now also felt strongly enough about an aspect of the culture here (rather than the photographic content), to take the trouble to express an opinion.

You shouldn't put your kid on the 'naughty step' without telling them why they are there.
So, please explain to eductate us and that should reduce the need to take similar actions in the future.

The only thing I would wish to say is that if the moderator gives an explaination we can ALL ( not just those so wound up that they will spend time on a PM) learn from that so that we know what sort of things are likely to be closed / locked in future.

I must agree that would save some aggravation.

The thread in question was becoming very much a repeat of earlier discussion that has it seems has been covered the world over.
I think it is obvious why it was locked and IMO this was the correct action. I think the title of the thread is a little mischevious.
PU isnt a democracy- that just wouldnt be feasible. The mods have a judgement call to make and on the whole do a good job.
Now where did I put my camera?

I would like to offer my support to the moderators on this one.

Whatever happened to a little democracy around here?
If a topic is going to be closed, the members surely have a right to know why, irrespective of the standard get out, "We don't discuss moderation decisions in public".
I for one am not after a discussion, just a rational explanation other than "Topic closed". All that was needed was a mod. to have the courtesy to add another post to the thread before closure, explaining the decision. Is that too much to ask?
