WTB M42 adapter

I have bought a Soliger 400mm for £19.35, tested it this morning and I'm pretty happy with the IQ certainly for < £20. But I don't have a propoer adapter and as a result the lens doesn't line up correctly it's about 60 degrees turned from the upright position. A question too, would having the wrong adapter restrict it from focusing over distance?
So to cut a short story long .. does any one have a M42 adapter gathering dust?

I'm in exactly the same position There are a huge range of cheap third-party adapters available but many don't allow infinity focus and there are many sad examples of these getting stuck on the camera mount The genuine Pentax adapters are still available new from SRS for around £65.00, which seems disproportionate unless one is going to invest heavily in M42 lenses. They do 'pop-up' on ebay but you'll need to search world-wide and, unless you're very fortunate, expect to pay £30.00 plus.

Of the third-party offerings I have seen on ebay there are some that guarantee infinity focus; e.g. link and link. I also found one on Amazon link which I went a head and purchased after checking the manufacturers own website link: the only down-side being that they take a couple of weeks to arrive. My plan is to test it when it arrives on the lens I bought it for (Paragon 400mm f6.3; probably of the same production line as your Soligor) and if the initial tests suggest the lens is a keeper I'll go for a genuine adapter and keep a beady eye out for other potentially worthy M42 mounts to satisfy my LBL (lens buying lust; LBA is so passé :lol

Good luck and if you stumble a cross a genuine adapter for a bargain price keep it to yourself - please (unless there are more than one in which case you can buy me one by way of a 'thank you' for all this useful (?) information I've typed for you when I should have been getting on with my work)

Thanks Jon, I will be scouring the internet in an attempt to get my hands on one, I did make the mistake a while ago of buying an Opton 500mm but it's only a good door stop so I am using the adapter from that to test the Soligor and so far I'm impressed, take look at this cropped shot

I have two of them gathering dust as I have no M42 lenses and have no plans to buy any. They are not original Pentax but very, very good copies that include the spanner to remove them.

They have the following text printed on the face of them:- "BOWER M42 PENTAX K/M JAPAN".

I've used them with a couple of M42 lenses that I have since sold, but they do fit flush to the K mount surface and focus correctly at infinity.

If you can wait until the end of March, my wife can bring them back and post them. Posting them from Spain makes them quite expensive.

I paid £20 apiece for them plus postage. I'll happily let them go for £15.00 each including cheap postage from UK (and to a UK mainland address) in late March/early April.

I think you meant £25.00, Mike: I often make the same mistake when I type.

Assuming I'm correct, and given your legendary reputation for kindness and generosity I surely am, I'll free-up the space in your camera bag

Of course you can have it for £25.

As long as you buy my only M42 lens for £10 more than the asking price at the same time.

"Gathering dust" is only a figure of speech. Mine are both in plastic bags and inside a drawer, so there's not a speck of dust on them actually.
