WTB. Broken K-5

I need another mainbord for my K-5 or a broken kamera where I can take the mainboard from.

What is wrong with your K-5? How do you know it's the main circuit board that's faulty?

Hi.
This is because the previous owner tried to update the firmware and then ran out of power, så no update and a dead camera.
I have talked to the servicecenter and the only thing to do is a new/another main circuit board.

Firmware Rule number 1 ignored - make sure you have enough power. What a shame for the K-5.

I have a K5 going. I posted about it earlier in the year as it locked up at the end (thankfully) of a long weekend away.

Not sure if it's of any use to you?

Basically I got a 'battery depleted' message - so it would focus pressing the button halfway down, but then I couldn't press it all the way down. Tried different lenses, checked the battery was full to no avail. Tried the advice in reply to my post on this forum - all to no avail. I decided I would rather put my money towards a new camera rather than trying to fix this one. It was serviced and cleaned by Johnsons about 2 years ago. Other than this, I never had a problem with it, and the firmware was updated. I have original box (UK stock from Jessops). I can check again, but I think it was around 16,000 actuations (although I had thought it would be more???).

Open to offers if it is of interest to you.

Now i'm no tech guy but usually there is a distinction between software and hardware. Hardware failures are more commonly due to impact, heat or component/ moving part failure itself rather than bodged software updates. Circuit boards generally have no moving parts except for add ons such as cooling fans etc. (in pc's etc)

Have you had a second opinion?

Whilst I would not arrgue that a firmware failure could not render the hardware beyond repair for certain, I would suspect that there may be a way of just wiping all software and starting again as you may with a pc or tablet.

I can't offer a solution at present but you maybe be able to locate something on the tinterweb to assist - it may be worth a try.

I am using a tablet that had become useless for net use and the tech guys wrote it off, one simple factory reset and and what seemed like an age to reload the udates and it works 100%, sometimes I feel that advice can be given by people who do not want to assist but want either a lot of cash to remedy something or just want you to buy a new one.

If you have not already exlored this option/it could ultimately be an easy fix if you can find out how to wipe and then reinstall the software if access to the software is avaliable outside of Pentax themselves. I assume that there must be a way it depends if the instructions are available.

This made me curious - you state the camera is dead, is this totally dead or can you enter the menus to perform a factory reset ?
