Worried

Just before Christmas I had an accident with my ISDs.
The camera with the 75-300 attached had a fall. The lens came away from the camera. The lens had the plastic mountings broken. The camera mount "seemed" ok but when I fitted the kit lens there was an unhealthy but slight grinding sound. I have not removed the lens since or used the camera.
So I'm wondering can the lens be repaired or the broken part replaced and is there another option available (reliable independent repairer, London area?) where repairs and overall check up could be carried other than sending the lot to Pentax. Also is it worth repairing from what I have described considering that I was I was thinking of upgrading in 2007.
Any advice at all really appreciated.
Many Thanks
Tom

Well the Pentax Repair centre is in Langley, near Slough, which usually counts as "London Area"!

Thanks Tim.
Sure, I'm aware of that; I was just wondering if there was an independent place that is reliable. A friend of mine sent his camera back to Pentax and they held on to it almost for forever.

Hi Tom,

http://www.harrowtechnical.co.uk/

although they specialise in older Pentax cameras, I'm sure that if you gave Robin a ring there, he'd eb able to help you out. I've heard nothing but praise for him (and the shop) from this forum.

Cheers

Thanks Liam
Funnily I had been to their website and from what I quickly read led me to believe that digital work was not carried out. If they can do it that will be a trip for me.
Much appreciated Liam

Hi,

no problem. Because the problem stems from the lens mount, rather than the electronic internals, it shouldn't be any different from an older AF body really.

I picked up a new 75-300mm Pentax FAJ lens for just £40, so a repair might not be the best option.

Just a thought...

Hi John,

I hadn't actually considered the lens itself. I took the kit lens (18-55?) not possibly connecting to the body perfectly, and the possible damage to the mount, as being the main problem.. but yes, lenses can be replaced cheaply enough.. mostly: 600FA apart..

Cheers

I agree John.
From my googleing I was a bit shocked to find nothing under 120 quid as I paid just under 100 well over a year ago.
Would you be willing, on this great season of joy and goodwill, to divulge your supplier.

Certainly, and not only because it's the festive season!

eBay. There have been a few sellers offering these lenses, new or as-new, and when mine arrived there was no doubt that it was indeed new.

However, Sue has the SMC Pentax-DA 50-200mm lens and if you can afford the extra then that is without doubt the better lens.

Thanks so much John and a happy new year to you.
