It all depends what else you have

this is for a wedding and to be used in my K10D lens in my kit
Smc Pentax-da 1:4-5.8 55-300 ed
Sigma DG 28-300mm 1:3.5-6.3
smc Pentax-da 1:3.54-5.6 18-55mm AL
I would Like a smaller lens for free hand and not on a tripod so I am going for a 50-200mm

You have the DA55-300 that one is considered best lens in that range so no need to buy one of the above since they won't be better.

yes but it is long when it is at 300mm the wedding is in november so i think a smaller lens that not so long for candy shots as it takes' place at around 2.30pm so light will be a big factor.??

You would be better of with a 16/45 or if you can afford it the DA 16/50,you seem to be covered for your longer focal lengths!.....I did my daughters wedding and the 16/45 did most of the work....I see you have the 18/55 kit lens ,but the 16/45 is a step up in quality..............Ken

The DA50-200 is shorter though but i don't think there is much between them, certainly not when the DA50-200 is at 200mm and the DA55-300 at 200mm. I believe you would throw away your money with buying a DA50-200 for a single event.
If the lens is at 200mm and you're 10 metres away, do you think 10cm in length would make a difference?
If you're concerned by low light and want something in that range I would go for a better lens like the DA*50-135 f/2.8 or Sigma/Tamron 70-200 f/2.8, they are expensive though and bigger but they would at least give you better image quality and the ability to shoot in low light.
Like Ken said a wider lens might be a better buy since you don't have one beside your kit lens.
DA16-45 f/4 is a very good lens or if you can buy the 16-50 f/2.8 or tamron 17-50 f/2.8 you can do some low light too.
17-70mm lenses are also very handy since they cover a very wide range (group photos to portrait) sigma and pentax have both their own versions.
It's all up to you what you want and need though, if you want the DA50-200 no one is stopping you. Simply giving honest and open opining here

That would be my choice as well. Simple and effective kit and the minimum of messing about changing lenses.
