wireless triggers with AF

hi all
can anyone recommend wireless remote triggers for the K3 with AF?
I already have the aputure trigmaster ii which does the job but doesn't perform the AF function..(or at least it doen't for me).
the AF would allow me to take selfies in focus rather than guesswork

The 2.5mm remote connector has two button function - focus and shutter- that allow the same behaviour as the main shutter buttonwith its half-press.

A wired remote would give you the choice for sure, and you can always buy a 2m extension cable (stereo 2.5mm extension).

IR only has a single command, AFAIK. And remotes like the Triggermaster usually have only a single shutter output (even though on the 2.5mm connector). The decision to AF with remote is made in the camera's custom options. Custom Setting C3.19 decides on AF with remote, and defaults to Off - but unfortunately that is only for IR remote

(I thought that custom option would work with wired remotes, but just tried with my Cactus remote and it doesn't)

There is a possibility that a custom cable that does both trigger pins might work - I can try that at some point (a stereo to mono adapter would do the job - mono plug into Cactus, stereo socket off to camera)

Ok, I've just tried this out...

The Cactus style triggers will connect the sleeve to the tip of the 2.5mm connector. This is the shutter release only.

On the wired connector, shorting the ring to sleeve will trigger the half-press action. For this to focus you have to set the button customisation to auto-focus on half-press (which is the default).

So, to get the Cactus triggers to half-press AND full-press in one go, you'll need a stereo to mono adapter. You can do this at either end of the cable, but the type is different for each.

On the Cactus it has a 3.5mm socket (I have a short 2.5mm to 3.5mm stereo cable), so I can use a 3.5mm stereo plug to 3.5mm mono socket adapter - in between the Cactus and cable. (like this)

On other hand, to do it at the camera end you'll need a 2.5mm stereo plug to 2.5mm mono socket - into which you plug the trigger lead. (like this)

The mono-to-stereo adapter will short the tip and ring

But, those little adapters are not always great mechanically (you have a very large turning force on the socket - which is not a good idea!). So a custom cable is a much better idea if you can make one up

EDIT: Additionally, if the Triggermaster uses a stereo socket internally (it may do!) then you will have to make up a custom cable, as an adapter may just not work. In that case you'd just connect the ring and tip on the Triggermaster side to ring and tip+sleeve on the camera side.

The Yongnuo RF-602 (Wireless) is the best. The remote has 2 press
positions and a red light comes on for focus at the 1st stop and
then a then a green light when you press further for the release
position.

The LEDs are duplicated on the receiver so you can see if it's
working even without a camera. Connect the 2.5mm stereo plug
to your remote socket and your away.

If in focus the camera beeps when you reach the 1st position...
so just carry on to the 2nd to take the shot.

With IR the camera focuses and takes the shot in one operation.
It has to be set in the camera.

I think ive sussed it, by pressing the button halfway on the trigmaster ii doent actually do the focusing, its the camera that keeps focusing automatically. tried it in the garden and I could hear the focusing motor as I moved nearer and away from the camera and I came out in focus every time so happy days
