The thing is Gareth, with a 300mm and TC or similar I would have missed this shot, the bird would have landed and flown again before I'd located it in the viewfinder, with the Bigma I just zoomed out till I found it and intended to zoom in on it again, according to the exif this was shot at about 190mm. This is my first decent shot of this bird, they are so quick and difficult to capture, they dont even stay on feeders very long.
I think I need to be thinking of the 60-250DA and a decent TC.

That's a great capture, congratulations! I have the DA*60-250 and the Promaster 1.7x TC that does work with the SDM but I find I rarely use the TC as most of my shots (not all! :wink are covered adequately by the 60-250 alone and the IQ IS that bit better, plus I'm not limited by the effective f6.3 maximum.
I frequently use my 60-250 at f4.0 or f4.5 as it's so good wide open. But it is nice to have the ability to extend the FL to 425mm, especially for those small bird shots like yours!

It's a top shot! Nice one. I have been using the DA* 300 for a little while now, and whilst to start with I found myself hunting around to get things in the viewfinder (only find they have flown!), I can now pretty much get the thing pointing where I want it first time...

I caught a glimpse of this out of the corner of my eye and zoomed out to make it easier to locate, fortunately I snapped this before zooming in again as it quickly flew off So this is about a quarter of the original frame size, not bad eh?
