With a wider aperture setting, you would have been able to throw the background out of focus more. The branches and twigs distract attention away from the bird.
That said, the goose is well lit and sharp, with plenty of detail in the feathers.

thanks berg! if i used a more open aperture, like 5.6 i think the only result was less sharpen on the goose!
it's the 50-200 kit lens, so i generally shot at > 6 !

I have to agree with iBerg. The bird is nice and sharp with good detail.
However, the background is a little distracting, and would be thrown more out of focus using a wider aperture.
I don't know at which distance the image was captured, but according to my DOF calculator, at f/5.6 you will have a DOF of 0.4 m at 5 metres distance, enough to keep the goose in focus. At 10 m the DOF would be 1.6 metres.

I guess it depends on how far away Il Texano was. If this was at the long end then 5.6 would be wide open and softer, so I can see why he might try to avoid it.

i was about 2 meters far, not more! it was shot at 115mm according to the exif data!

Basically...
Select around the goose and copy it to a second layer.
Use the Blur tool on the background to get the desired effect then smudge it in so you don't get a halo.
Then flatten the image.
Actually not that complicated once you get the hang of it.
If I get time I'll do a step-by-step.
