Were there ever any good wideangle primes made with short focal lengths (ie shorter then 28mm and which were not a fisheye)

For non-Pentax primes, the Sigma manual focus 24mm/f2.8 and 28mm/f2.8 have good reputations, as does the Tamron adaptall 24mm/f2.5.

I can certainly vouch for the Tamron 24 F2.5, it's reckoned to be almost as good as the 28 F2.5 that was considered to be good enough for professionals - personally, I prefer the 24mm.

Both the above are standard Adaptall 2 lenses but I'd like to get my hands on an SP 17mm F3.5

The FA 1:2.8 20mm is pretty good, and I believe that the DA 14mm is too. And people have always been prepared to pay a lot for the 15mm.

The SMC 24/2.8 A is an excellent lens. Very sharp above f 5.6, great colour rendition and nice contrast. I've obtained all my best landscape images with this lens. Slightly soft at the corners when wide open (in comparison with my 50/1.4 A) but it's a peach of a lens all the same. It becomes a great 'standard' 36 mm lens on a DSLR, but I guess that is not wide enough for many photographers
