Wide angle Lens question...

Hi guys....
Owing to lack of money I use the old Pentax Manual lenses on my K100D. I figure its the best glass for not much money... but I'm after a wide angle lens and the focal length is longer when you put them on a dig. camera. The lens I really need is a Pentax 10-17 auto but they're nearly £400 which is about £300 more than I've got
So is there a way of getting wide angle cheap? I was looking at Russian Zenitar 16mm manual lenses but I dunno if they're any good, besides that will equate to about 26mm or something. Is there an attachment, you know like the tele converter tubes or something that would give me like 16mm wide?
cheers Lee

Lee,
I have a little lens attachment with a 49mm thread that (I think) is 0.42x. That makes a 28mm very wide. For a "noddy" piece of glass it's quite ok - loads of CA, but probably sharp enough for some things.

My favourite use (when I had a 28mm lens) was doing real "in-yer-face" portraits at wide angle.

Are you sure it's the 10-17 you really want as that's a fisheye and produces quite unusual results. I've got one (and it's great) however the 10-20mm Sigma I also have is a more generally useful lens.

To go really wide I'm not sure there is a very cheap option (other than the attachment mentioned by Matt) unfortunately - might be best to start saving for the Sigma (or the 10-17 if that's what you want).

Thanks guys... I'll get the attachment for now and save up for the Sigma! My photos tend to be fairly unreal anyway so a slight lack of quality won't notice.. any idea where I can get one?

Matt I love the pics, first one especially.

Thanks Lee

Did a Google... http://www.harpersphoto.co.uk/used.html
They have a 0.5x for 52mm, and a 0.42x for 49mm (under Misc). You'll probably have to ring them to see what the kit is about, but that's a start at least
The dreaded heebay has a number of converters at pretty high prices.
