Wide angle film lens

The only pentax AF zoom I have seen is the 18-35.
Any ideas, I need a wide angle for my Z1-p, haven't tried my 16-45 yet-it might work.Have been looking at the Tamron 17-35.
Any ideas would be welcome. Will I get back/front focus issues using third party lenses on a film camera??

I think the 18-35mm is the only Pentax full frame wide angle AF zoom. With the DA lenses you'll get vignetting at 18mm.

What about the 17-28mm Pentax zoom. Used to use that on my Z-1.
It was a fish-eye at the 17mm end.

Unfortunately, not a fish-eye on digital

edit - still have it and still use it on the K10D

I was looking at an 18-35mm for the same reason, but I hear they're not particularly wonderful lenses.

The 17-28mm fisheye will be rare and expensive surely? Ultra wide angle lenses have never been huge sellers until now.

London Camera Exchange have one for £230.
Is this a decent lens??
The Tamron 17-35 2.8-4 is £130.

I seem to recal Cosina did a wide angle zoom which got quite good reviews, was about the same time I bought my MZ7, about 1999? so might be worth a bit of research and hunting one down.

I have seen the 17-28 go for almost £400, so the price seems ok if it is in good nick.

I loved the fish-eye effect and the ultrawide angle, but it's not to everyones taste.

You would need to make sure that's what you wanted

For ultra wide angle on film cameras I use a Pentax M 20mm f4. It is a small lens like the 50mm M series.

The 18-35 is an FAJ lens - ie no aperature ring. It was the lens first bundled with the ist D. Ok for MZ50 MZ60 or *ist - used it with the former and latter in Aus/NZ in 06/07 and didn't get any duff images (that weren't my fault or down to a sticky shutter on the *ist ).

If you want the width that a 20mm offers and an aperature ring, then there is always the FA20-35 F4 - ffords have 2 for sale at the mo - £269 & £299. I've got a copy that I use with my MZSs and I've had no issues with the quality. It's got its place already reserved in my travelling bag for our next trip down under (22 days and counting )

20mm or 24mm primes in any version tend to be relatively expensive compared to the 'standard' 28mm.

Isn't the Sigma 10-20mm lens full frame?

The Tokina AF193 19-35 is a good choice. I bought the last one SRS has in stock, last year. The so called "Plastic Fantastic". Don't let the nickname put you off. It is all metal except the very chunky focus and zoom ring grips (deeper tread than my car's tyres!) The manual says that it usable on digital and film. The same lens was sold as a Cosina, Vivtar, Tamron and a couple of other brands, but the Tokina one is slightly better than the others, as it has Tokina's own lens coatings. The others are all Cosina glass and coating. I am very pleased with mine.

I can recommend the Cosina/Vivitar 19-35. A bit plasticky but suprisingly good image quality
