Considering there were only 100 of these in the country there seems to be an awful lot still for sale.
Can anyone throw any light on this please.

Would one of these be an investment for the future??

Thanks

we can only speculate, but white is a very noticeable colour and many people might want their camera to be more discreet. I quite like the green/khaki colour they did the Km in though, but since the Km is the entry level model and will most likely end up in the hands of someone just joining the Pentax family they may not wish to 'parade' their purchase in the same way an advanced user might with a more expensive model.

Equally, some of the most expensive lenses in the Canon and Nikon ranges are white as I recall so for those people it is a status symbol, but the Km cannot be considered a status symbol as it is the entry level model. So I am guessing the white is not suitable for the Km but ironically might work for a more expensive 'one off' model.

At some point it may be collectible. As I said I quite fancy the green one. I think it looks quite nice and 'military' looking

But those are just hunches. Anything produced in limited quantities can become collectible

White might be quite a good colour to do weddings with and be noticed - not quite the Gold plated Rolleiflex, but certainly different.

Unfortunately it may not be the best camera for that purpose!

Thanks for comments

At £449 think I'll give it a miss

A good question, especially as we often see older limited editions fetching large sums on eBay etc (think of the LX titanium here). Unfortunately, I don't think the K-m will ever attain "legendary" status, even though it's a very good camera, hence the limited editions of white and green are unlikely to be worth vastly more than the standard examples in years to come (think here of the black ME Super).

Also, to be a true "investment" you really need to buy the camera and never take it out of its box as any useage will immediately impact on future collectors' values.

Overall I think the white K-m probably isn't a sound way of future-proofing your cash, but I do think it looks kinda funky and if I was buying a K-m anyway (to use) then I'd probably rather have the white one.
