Far easier, for a beginner to just set the camera WB to flash and get on with enjoying learning new tricks

I've used both the Expodisc and the QPcard-201.
Be aware that just getting a grey paint from B&Q (etc) probably isn't going to cut it. You need a pure colour that doesn't exhibit any metermerism. That's why colour charts are expensive - they're not just blobs of Dulux dabbed on a card
Most of the time, though, a simple WB grab from a piece of correctly exposed paper will do the job.
The Expodisc is handy in the field - more especially when using it as an incident light meter
And the QPcard is great when there's colour critical things to do (like product shots).
They all have their place... as long as you know why and how to use them
HTH!

I've seen QPcard-201 before looks quite good and only about
11 Euros and the software's free. I'll order one tomorrow to
mess around with.

You can download the free software for the time being it's supposed to have a few sample shots to practice on.Looking forward to you opinion on the QPCard Algi
This ebay auction has some good quality lens photos, but the colour balance is wrong. The black of the lens shows up as brown?
