Which version of Elements

Well, Ive finally decided to bit the bullet and get myself a copy of Photoshop Elements as I feel that I am now at a stage that I need to start editing my images rather than relying on them being good direct from the camera.

So which version do I go for?

Clearly the latest version (7?) will have the most features but is it that much better than 6,5 or even 4?

Can I save myself a few quid by getting an older version?

What are the additions for each version?
Cheers all

Still using version 2, but wondered myself what the additions were.
Mainly use the Levels, Unsharp and Crop, but interested to know what i'm missing which

Saw 7 for 50 quid the other day, so if its got a lot of worthwhile additions, might push the boat out

Elements 7 will be your best buy as it has the most up todate camera raw, apart from CS4/Lightroom of cause..

If you can get a bargain copy of version 6 go for that, you can always update Camera RAW. If not go for 7. Don't go for less than 6 though - it is just so much better than the earlier versions.

Ide allways say go for the newest version if your budget permits. You will get more features and support.
I dont rate lightroom personaly, cant get on with it!
Prefer PS CS3 lol

Check out Costco if you are close to one, I bought PSE5 direct from Adobe and was very disapponted to find it for £18 less in Costco. I think they have PSE7 at the moment

Elements is generally cheaper from anywhere else than direct from Abobe. I don't know why but it is. My boxed version of PSE 6 was €30 cheaper than the downloaded upgrade from Adobe .

Given the problems I had when I first bought Elements, and opted for the downloaded version I will never again go that route.

Definitely go for Elements 7.

I had 5, skipped on 6 and now have 7

Make sure that 6 will support the version of RAW (PEF) files that you use.

You cannot always update.

My old version of PE v3 was/is fine with PEFs from my *istD but will not recognise the K20D PEFs and there is no upgrade or new plugin, so forced to buy a copy of PE v7

You can update 6 to accept the K20d - I did it successfully. No doubt you will be able to so so for the K7 too.

I shall probably update when 8 comes out if it offers a lot more. The differences between 6 and 7 aren't enough to update it, whereas the difference between 5 (or 4 which I had) and 6/7 are huge.

You can also buy a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet it comes with PSE 6.5
The small version A6 is £65 the medium A5 is £125.

Just an idea, a tablet is quite handy sometimes.

Just to throw in another option, but you should look at Paint Shop Pro Photo too and see how it compares. I find that PSP was forever crashing on my system.
