Which SD Memory Card to use?

As Blytheman said - probably better to have more, smaller capacity cards. You generally pay a premium for the higher capacity cards and you probably won't fill them unless you're taking hundreds and hundreds of shots.

If you are using them over a long period of time (e.g. a holiday or not downloading frequently) it would be better to split across a couple of cards to reduce the potential loss from SD card failure of theft. Imagine having photos from a 3 week holiday on one card and having the camera stolen!
You will only prise my 43Ltd from my cold, dead hands...

Transcend x10 16GB for me. I got four of them in a special offer from micro direct and I never looked back (I used them in various cameras and mp3 players before now in my K-5).
In the beginning it was the price (use for mp3 was the main purpose at this time, but I then carried on using them in other appliances) but by now I truly can say that the ones I got are 1a.
I do understand it is a bit of hit and miss with them, but if you get them from a reputable seller I believe they can be very good value for money but there are many fakes about of them so I would never buy them of feeBay, Amazon Market or other private/business sellers that do not look after you in after sales.
I will eventually go over to the new format SDXC once Pentax updates the firmware for the K-5 to accept this card and it will then be SanDisk or Lexar Pro series.
Kind regards

It's nice to be nice!

They sell it slightly cheaper from their Amazon outlet http://www.amazon.co.uk/Transcend-16GB-SDHC-Class-Memory/dp/B002WE4HE2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1293025624&sr=8-1
Only £16.45 at 7DAy and less chance of it being counterfeit or "Bait and Switch"

I'd buy one but couldn't think of what I could use it for..... certainly wouldn't trust it in my camera

SmutjeUK, I'm sure MyMemory sell exactly the same ones on Amazon marketplace as they do on their own website

Anyone used Samsung sd cards? I understand they're supposed to offer good performance/build/value.
I did hear that they aren't quite there yet. I wish they were it's a brand that I have a lot of trust in, although they have always been a big supplier of memory chips to other people.

That may well be, I just state what I got and from where. If I would by one now it would be SanDisk or Lexar that's for sure but at the time I was not informed enough.
Cant wait for the SDXC once Pentax get their act together and updates the firmware.
I usually buy Big memory as I shoot in RAW+ and at maximum setting that's just over 300 pictures on a 16GB. But anything of real importance I tend to split over two or sometimes even more cards, but so far I never had a single problem to date.
I am sure there will be a first time for everything and I just hope it will happen when its nothing important.
Kind regards

I have no explanation for it but both my Transcend X10 cards refuse to allow me to put the firmware update file on them. Innova8 cards work fine.
Be hopefull that that's the only problem you ever have with Transcend X10's
I bought an 8GB Transcend X10 recently. It doesn't work properly on my K200D - saves 8 or 10 jpegs but then the K200D reports an error and will do no more. If I use the card on a PC, it works fine - at least, I've copied 4GB of jpegs onto it without problem. I've formatted it both on thge PC and in-camera and it still misbehaves.

I'm not sure whether there is a compatibility problem between the Transcend Class 10 cards and the K200D and am pondering about whether to install the firmware update for the K200D, as thgat is supposed to solve some problems with certain SDHC cards.

Has anyone else had this problem with a K200D?

I can only recomend the Sandisk Extreme (30x) cards. I know they tend to be a little bit pricier but I have the 8gig card and it really does pay dividends. Remember, it isn't just the speed of the card whilst in the camera but also the speed of the card when you put in your PC to transfer your pics! This card is 30x speed and is extremely quick. Well woth the extra cash in my opinion.

Dave
