Servicing my DSLR

Hi all,
I have seen one or two people on this forum say that they get their cameras serviced regularly. As someone who has never done this, can you please tell me where do you get it done and how much does it cost?
Thanks.

I use a small local dealer in Ferndown (close to Poole) and he does them for me. For a normal inspection and clean as long as there is nothing 'major' or out of the ordinary it cost me £100 per camera for the fist time and then £75 per year. Takes usually 3-4 days.
I obviously did not have the Pentax long enough for that but when I got my GX-10 it was £75 as I used him for years with my Nikon F2 and F2AS.
He is qualified for Nikon, Canon, Pentax and Minolta and as the Samsung was the same as the Pentax k10D he had no problems with checking this one for me.
I do not know if he takes mail service but I know he is busy as you have to book a service in advance of a minimum 2 weeks.
He does emergency repairs but never had the need for it so don't know what he would charge.
Try SRS they may have the service as well as they are Pentax Pro dealers.
Kind regards

Cannot see the need for a regular service on a modern camera. Apart from a sensor clean which you can do yourself what is left to do on a modern dslr?

I life by the sea, I go out in foul weather, I travel to very sandy areas, and all the rest I put my equipment through.
Why do you need an MOT on a modern car. I can change the oil and fill it up with petrol?
It's for looking after your gear. My F2 is just 15years younger as I am. It has been through a lot and looks like it but at the end it is still in 1A condition because I looked after it.
I do agree that you can do the sensor clean but can you see if there is enough lubricant for the shutter or can you clean this one and lube it?
I rather pa a few pounds and know my camera will work rather then in a few years time having to buy one again because the old one failed on me.
This is only my personal opinion and people have the choice to do it or not. I do not say that you have to do it, but if you got your camera for years and take about 10000 pictures a year then you should look after your camera as even in some manuals it states how many pictures the average camera can take before a service is needed.
If you make money with your camera and use it on a daily base, this service will repay itself in the long run.
But like said that's only me and I do not try here to convert or convince anyone.
Kind regards
