Which new body?

IMHO the FLUcard is a gimmick. For a flagship body released in 2013 the absence of built-in WiFi is a total mystery to me. The FLUcard adds considerable cost and a potential for failure [as do all SD cards].
I'm also very concerned at the large number of people who have experienced the 'machine gun shutter' fault which so far hasn't been acknowledged by PR. For casual shooters, I see no point to dual SD card slots which just add complexity and confusion. Also, the K-3 has totally screwed up SR in Movie mode by not using the sensor-shift mechanism. DSLR movie shooting is becoming a very much required attribute to modern bodies and RICOH have missed the bus with the K-3. If the next flagship [K-1 ?] doesn't correct this and add an articulated LCD [A must for DSLR movie shooters] then they will have missed the boat entirely and can kiss that growing market goodbye forever.
Auto WB might be better on the K-3 but why spend so much on a body just to use Auto settings? You can manual white balance on all bodies, use it. Besides, shooting RAW [which I think everyone should be with a K-3] means you can correct this in POST,
In short, right now I'd certainly consider the K-5II over the K-3, But I'm still happy with the K-7

I would like to add my thoughts on this matter, Having sold my K5iis for the K3, I do prefer the images from my K5iis but I only put this down to me still being on a learning curve with the K3 as it's a different beast all together.
To answer sledgers points, myself and a couple of my friends own K3s and we haven't suffered the machine gun shutter, plus k3 owners on here haven't reported the fault either so I think like everything it will be a few isolated cases around the world blown out of proportion, In camera WiFi does not interest me, I own a csc camera with it, used it once and then never since. And as such will not be buying a Flucard, As a casual shooter myself I do find the twin SD card slots superb, depending on what I am doing I have one set to JPEG and the other to raw or one for photos the other to movies etc etc.
Yes an articulated screen would be nice but would make the camera bigger and less robust and I have one on my csc which I use all time only because the viewfinder is not upto much and on my MX-1 as that's all it's got but the K3 has the best viewfinder ever which is a total joy to use, so that doesn't concern me much either.
Yes if I could I would of kept my k5iis as well but I am not quite as rich as david

It's on my conscience all the time! I may be persuaded to sell the K-5IIs soon, but it's very hard to do this!

Having experienced several mechanical and software faults on my K-30, this newer line of software really needs a good thorough commissioning period.
For a camera with mic and headphone sockets, it's got comparatively lousy movie capabilities, much like the K-30 with non mechanical stabilisation?!

Everything has a potential for failure. that includes inbuilt wifi and even the whole camera. can't see the logic in that argument.IMHO the FLUcard is a gimmick. Just becuase you find it complex and confusing it doesn't mean that everyone else would do so. I can't see how a correlation can be made between the amount someone shoots and their level of intelligence. For casual shooters, I see no point to dual SD card slots which just add complexity and confusion.

I've found the dual sd card slots very useful for a wifi card in one and normal card in slot 1.

Why would you buy a K-3 or any Pentax to shoot movies as a number one priority, The K-3 and K-30 are picture takers first and foremost and then they also do movies.sledger wrote:

If you want to shoot movies more then pictures then you buy a camera that is suited to the job. Just like buying a car, you buy what it can do and what you want it to do, not by what it can't do.....or am I missing something?
Yet again stupid arguments by non K-3 owners.
And yes if and when there is a FF Pentax my K-3 will be the first of many listed on the classifieds page

I wouldn't. Why would you buy a K-3 or any Pentax to shoot movies as a number one priority
As has been mentioned above though, these models could be more capable on that front than they are. The likes of bit rates, and mechanical stabilisation could be addressed via firmware update, but hasn't been. It's disappointing to see the K-3 provide the same lacklustre video capabilities as the K-30 again.
There is a market there, and no reason why Pentax couldn't be a strong part of it. This is regardless of what use mode any one Pentax user chooses to focus on.

But there are a lot of videographers who buy DLSRs to shoot video for very good reason and which are perfectly suited to the task.
I'm betting you also had your own very good reasons to buy a K-3 for stills?
