Which Laptop for image editing?

I'm looking for a Laptop which needs to be able to handle my K10D 28MB+ images using Photoshop CS3, Elements 6 and Lightroom1/2, or a combination of the above image editing software options. The question is. Does the laptop have to have a separate graphics card or is an integrated graphics system going to provide satisfactory performance? For instance I have my eye on a HP G70-111EM laptop with a 17' screen and 3GB of RAM. Seems nice but it has a Intel integrated graphics (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD)which will rob about 1GB of RAM. Which laptop for image editing? Help!!

Agreed. My DELL Inspiron 1501 laptop is capable of advanced photo editing with the standard graphics card, but the limited viewing angle and contrast of the monitor is such that it's difficult to judge what processing an image requires.

I have a macbook and 2 imacs - i have a second monitor I attach my macbook to when i'm at my desk at home. I also have a dell laptop and at work I use a Dell PC with two monitors. I use the apples in both windows vista and OSX - I have windows xp at work. I have photoshop for wndows and mac. I use iphoto for my pictures. I'm a radiographer and deal with 15mB digital images using several pieces similar to photography software (histogram analysis, crop, mag, etc....)

I cannot understand your reluctance to consider the macbook - i would say xp to vista is probably a more painful jump. All my kids use both osx and vista interchangeably. as for macs being expensive... if you carefully compare the sepcifications (including the excellent LED screens on the new macbooks, the bundled software and the inbuilt colour callibration) i think mac's are probably cheaper and better made.

I read your comments, I used to be a PC man, until my daughter (doing Photography @ Edinburgh Uni) came home for the weekend with her Macbook Pro.

So I'm sorry to say now another vote here for the Macbook Pro range, I now luv mine to bits.
