Which CPL?

I will need a new 77mm CPL when I replace my stolen Tamron 70-200.

In the past I have used Kenko Pro 1 CPLs - bought off ebay but I am convinced that the last one I bought was a fake so this time I intend buying from a reputable retailer

I have settled on getting a Hoya, the question is - do I go for the Pro 1 or the HD?

From what I have read - the main difference is a 25% improvement in light transmission on the HD and it is easier to clean. In terms of price - the HD is around £20 more.

Does anybody have any real world experience of Pro 1 Vs HD?

Generally speaking, go for the highest quality you can afford. If the Hoya HD has such a significant improvement in light transmission then I'm sure that can only be of benefit.

I'm currently contemplating investing in the Lee circular polariser, but I'm currently using my arm and leg

If you're interested in a Hoya (Green Box) CPL then I have a spare one that has been used just a handful of times - send me a Pm if you are

Thanks guys

Lenny - I have been contemplating the Lee CPL myself for some time - but at £250 (including the front holder ring) - I suspect contemplating it will be as far as I get - and I have never had an issue attaching my Lee filters on top of a standard CPL

Interesting test Defragged - Firstly in that they rate the Marumi DHG Super overall winner (I had not considered Marumi) and am surprised the performance matched the B+W (which I had discounted on price) . They also rate the Marumi DHG 4th overall - 3 places above the Hoya Pro 1.

Pity they do not have the Hoya HD in the test. Price wise - the Marumi DHG is around the same as the Hoya Pro 1 and the Marumi DHG Super is around £10 more than the Hoya HD

Mmmm - need to find a comparison between the Hoya HD and the Marumi Super

Thanks

Just found an update to the test above link

Well that puts the feline amongst the feathered creatures! Hoya HD 6th overall - 2 places behind the standard Marumi DHG and only one place above the Hoya Pro 1.

So - looks like my choice has totally changed - Marumi DHG or Marumi DHG Super!

I bought the Hoya Pro 2 weeks ago as I misplaced my old one....returned it to Amazon. The coating on the ring around the glass started chipping after first use in quite a few places. The turning action was far from smooth and I was having trouble putting it on and taking it off on first try. If you look at Amazon reviews, I'm not the only one with such issues. Somehow the QC is not what it used to be it appears.

Went back to my cheap alternative, which, actually feels better in hand than the Hoya and works surprisingly well, until I can spare some money for something better.
