Whether to go ahead

Just everyone bear in mind that we never really know anything about people's lives outside what we read in their posts. Also, posts don't convey meaning like a conversation would, so something that seems quite harsh could be meant in a different way. Smilies help but are not always conclusive.

So when writing, think first, type second, be civil and repectful and don't overreact to what others say.

A sense of humour helps to maintain good humour. If we feel stressed and ill humoured then that's not the time to fire off posts.

This forum gets better and better by the minute.

So by trying to calm an issue between two other members, it is your opinion that it may be my fault. I do not question how you arrived at that conclusion. However, you, like everyone else here are free thinkers and are entitled to your opinions.

Point taken with the smiles John. They may have been construed as making fun, that was not the intention. Anyway, fingers burnt. Basically, if two members are feuding, it's better not to get involved and maybe quicker to delete the thread?

I don't like getting involved in threads that turn out like this. The only advice I give, through experience of several bitter meltdowns on other forums, is try and read each post in the best possible light, and to write yours with the understanding it may be read in the worst possible light.

Back on topic.

My first assignment for the student newspaper in about 1985 was to cover a demo at the debating society. I turned up with my trusty ME Super and a Boots brand flashgun. The other chappie there had a Nikon F3 with a flashgun that was like the second coming of the Lord. He was very proud of his kit. Come Sunday, the editor was pleased to bits with my images as the other chap had misloaded his film into the dev tank and ruined the lot. Was the ME Super better than the F3? No, of course not, although it was smaller, lighter and slicker. At the end of the day what mattered is that between the camera and the operator we got the job done. The editor didn't give a stuff how the pictures were taken, just that he had pictures to put on the front page.

It is sad Road Dancer, think we all hold strong opinions and that is fine as long as we remember that others may hold opinions of equal merit and more to the point that I may actually, heaven forbid, be wrong.

At least this is not personal and to date I have only notice one thread where people were replying to the person and not the post and in terms well mannered people just don't do.

A very good point John, I recal a recent altercation between Aminstar and I think organicimagery, both seem to have misread the meanings in each others posts and both it seems immiediately got the hackles up, but like gentlemen they managed to sort it out and apologise to each other.

Misreading a post is more often that not the cause of arguments, I have followed several threads of this nature, reading and re-reading a post which has caused offence and been unable to find anything wrong with it, and on occasion I have had to re-read a post to make sure I hadn't misunderstood an obvious insult, what makes matters worse is the fact that English is not everyones first language.

I certainly would say the same. But I was accused of condoning copyright theft, which I don't, and I would appreciate an acknowledgement from Lemmy that he misinterpreted what I wrote.
