Dual booted with both Snow Leopard and Vista 64 Bit for PC Gaming.
17 inch MacBook Pro with :-
2.8Ghz Core 2 Duo
500GB HD
4GB RAM
512MB GeForce 9600M GT
Software installed on both machines includes:-
Aperture 2 (waiting for Focus on Imaging to hopefully get a good deal on V3 upgrade!)
Full Adobe CS3 Web Premium Suite
iWorks & iLife 09
Huey Pro Calibration.
Family pack MobileMe for photo galleries and sync with 2x iPhones etc.
Looking forward to upgrading to Aperture 3 as the free trial is so far showing that it will probably be the only photo software that I'll ever use for 99% of my work.

I think you will be able to run 3 gig, I had that in my macbbook, worked fine

Well I did learn the value of older computers today, after three hours trying to extract some files from Sue's old Nokia phone to use on her new iPhone.
Three Vista and Windows 7 machines just would not have it at all, but our oldest Windows xp machine did the job just fine. Three hours....
It is one of the reasons I shoot JPEG. Will we all be tearing our hair out in 10 years time when PEF and DNG files just won't be opened?

Probably. The recommended archive format for images is, at present, TIF.

There are logical reasons to shoot JPEG, but concerns over future compatibility is not one of them. If ever forced to "upgrade" to something that doesn't open PEF or DNG, I will convert my RAW files to JPEG or TIFF first. Simples.

TIFF will certainly be around for many years to come but DNG seems to be going that way as well.

For a moment there I was very excited But after a quick bit of Googling I think I'm right, the original Core Duo (not Core 2 Duo) MBPs can only handle 2GB.
