What would you do?

Bought an item on ebay for £10inc postage on 3rd March.
Paid with Paypal same day.
Item has not arrived.
Seller has emailed a tracking number which shows post office accepted a parcel on 6th March.
So folks, what would you do.
I am not that bothered about the £10 or the item but I don`t like being taken for a ride. Am I being unreasonable to expect delivery by now?

If it has a tracking no, then it has probably has a insured value, if only nominal - but (I think) more than enough for your purposes.

Suggest you vist the Royal Mail's web pages to look at how the claim system operates - including who has to claim and what the window is for making any claim. If it's been sent 2nd class signed for, it's SLA is 3 working days, so you are only just (today) into failure to deliver within the promised time.

If he posted it on the 6th then I think its a bit unreasonable to be blaming him for it not arriving already.
I always give a week before I start moaning.

Have you tried going to your local post office as if you were out it will be there. They only hold for couple of weeks then send back to sender. If was signed for anybody can sign, if was special delivery only you can sign.Hope this helps. And they don't always leave a card. PS. I work for post office.

If it was posted via Royal Mail website, they give quite clear instructions on the procedure for making a claim. As I understand it , the claim needs to be made by the seller, but be aware it can take 4-5 weeks.

I have only had one item go missing in the post. It had a nominal value of £10 that I stated at the time of posting. I made the claim, but since I could not prove the value of the item , Royal Mail sent me a book of 1st class stamps as compensation, which just about covered my inital postage costs. Further telephone calls got me nowhere.

In your case since this was a eBay transaction the seller will be able to provide details of the sale price and also any postage costs.

hope this helps - Steve

I would not just wait and do nothing because the parcel has already been received by the Royal Mail at your end several days ago. EDIT: PLEASE SEE MY REPLY BELOW.

1. Go to your local Royal Mail Delivery Office (or Post Office if they would hold your mail) to see if they have the parcel or know anything about it.

2. Email the seller in case they are generous enough to replace or refund the item, even though they may not be obliged to do so.

3. Start a PayPal claim. You may not win if the tracking number is genuine, but give it a go anyway.

4. After a 7 more days and no item or refund, leave Negative Feedback for the seller if you have evidence that they are dishonest. Dont leave Negative or Neutral feedback if the item got lost through no fault of the seller.

As I read that he was emailed a tracking number showing the post office ACCEPTED the parcel for delivery, not that it has been received.

OK, if it means the parcel was only posted on the 6th, yes of course Dave should wait a week or so for delivery.

Sorry I misunderstood that point.

I would expect delivery by now, but allow extra time for delays. If it was posted on the 6th I would wait a few more days before enquiring.

Note that the item may have been collected on the 7th if it was posted after the collection time. Also delivery can take some days extra if the item was posted by Second Class or Standard Parcels instead of First Class.

Usually things arrive just after you start worrying!

I had to send my birth certificate to a pension provider last year. They posted it back to me and gave me a tracking number. I had to wait twenty one working days before I could claim money for a diplicate. Six months later the original turned up in the original registered envelope with a note on the front saying "signed for by postman".

Lens has arrived. Looks reasionable, will have a play later.
Perhaps I am a bit impatient, it`s just that when I sell something on ebay I always post next day, first class.

So do I, but that doesn't guarantee fast delivery...

It is irritating when people are slow at sending or use second class post, but I guess we just have to slow down a little and be patient. 50 years ago we would have been writing letters to each other and this thread would have taken several weeks or months to complete and been restricted to two people.

Things are a little faster these days!
Best regards, John
