Just finished renovating My MX, fantastic camera! I was thinking how it seems to have taken the place of my MES in the camera bag and is going to get a lot of use. How many out there have changed from one model to another, and how often do you use your second choice bodies?
Cheers, HG

Not that often now, but I still keep a couple of LX's in the bag as back ups to my K10D's

I still use my MZ5-n, but it feals a little cheap in the hand along side my K10. I sold my Program A, loved that camera though!

I also have an LX and when it comes back form being serviced I am sure to be giving it a go. It's a shame I can't use the DA lenses on it as it only uses the apature stopped right down, still I have enough lenses with an apature ring.

Of my film cameras I still find the ME Super the one I can work most quickly with, and have the most confidence in*, but that is simply because it was the camera I used for the first ten years or more of photography! When it died I used an MX which I loved, but my current example has the battery drain problem. Mostly, now, I use the LX although it is pretty heavy! I've often thought of trying to pick-up a 40mm pancake lens and using it with one of my ME Supers as my "carry around in my pocket" camera but those lenses still command a pretty good price.

*confidence in my use of it, not the camera itself.

Cheers, Kris.

Lots of film bodies, a couple of digital ones, too many lenses (mainly older glass) and a Horseman LE 5x4.

I moved from an ME SUper to an LX, after a few years in between using mainly a compact point and shoot (albeit a Nikon 35 Ti). I changed because I could finally afford an LX, my dream camera all my life. My lovely old ME Super is not neglected, though, my wife uses it now.

Easy DIY fix for that - go to the last paragraph on this page and follow the simple instruction. Hey presto, you have a functioning MX once more!

As for the original question, I'd love to say that I use all my cameras equally but that's not proving to be true. If it's digital then it's the K10D, if it's film then it's the MX. Sometimes the Contax gets a look in when I need something to slip in the pocket but I'm ashamed to say my Leica hasn't seen a film in 2 years and my Rollei has only had one roll since it came back from a service 18 months ago. I've got plenty of cameras but once I find one I like I tend to stick to it pretty exclusively...

Yup, I saw that the other day when you sent me the link for another topic. Once my MX and I are both on the same side of the Atlantic I'll give it a whirl. I sent it off for repair a couple of years back (before I discovered Harrow Technical) and it came back "unable to obtain parts..."

Thanks for the link, extremely useful.

Best wishes, Kris.

Don't get too jealous; the Leica I was referring to is a Minilux which I keep as my "compact" film camera, the reason it doesn't get used is that I rarely take a compact (I rely on my phone for emergencies) and when I do it tends to be the Contax 'cos it's digital. I wish it was an M6 with the new Noctilux 50/0.95 but that's well out of my financial league.

The Rollei gets more attention simply because it's medium format and so offers me a completely different medium to play with (and it takes nice photos of course!).

Other than that I've got 60+ film bodies and half-a-dozen digicams; with the exception of another Leica (a tatty IIIf with an equally scruffy Summitar 50) none of which are worth more than a couple of quid.

About 50% of them are Olympus Trips, I can't walk past one at a car boot sale without buying it - rarely for more than a pound. I've played with so many now I know them pretty well, so repairs are generally straightforward. They're great for putting on the tables at weddings - they're simple to use (very intuitive for young and old alike) and produce much better pictures than the disposable ones you usually get given.

I got a *istDL2 3 years ago (I think), but I still enjoy going out with my ME Supers. I only have small hands so they fit quite well as it were, and the viewfinder is beautifully clear and I love the feel and sound of operation-even winding on is enjoyable!

Pentax *istDL2, MV, two ME Supers (one black, one silver), K1000, Ricoh KR10M, Olymus OM2, Zenit EM, Zorki 4, and a number of different lenses, including a beautiful Sigma 28 mm Mini-Wide II and a Pentax 40 mm pancake.

I started out with a Pentax SP1000 with 55mm f2 lens and worked through ME Super, MX, LX, Super A, skipped a few models till MZ5, MZ3 and then the DSLRs.

My favourite is actually the K10D which is a superb camera that does its job and does it exceptionally well.
Best regards, John

I like to use different cameras just for the fun of it. Of my film bodies the LX is probably my favourite although I like the lightness of the MX and have nostalgic memories of years of the ME Super. Of digital SLRs I have only had the K10D and as John says, its lovely! On a trip like the one to Salisbury last week I took the K10D and the LX, which is probably my favoured combination --- at least at the moment.

I must admit my ME Super lies neglected since I got my *istDL

Maybe because I don't have the photography backround you guys have and I could never "see" the image before taking it,so I struggled with film.

But, it could be worth a try, now that I'm improving, ( or at least I think I am ), to go out with the ME and see what results I can get without having the oppurtunity to review the image immediately.

Getting there! Thanks to you guys

I loved my MX but it sadly passed away, I still use a Spotmatic F for fun, I've two, a well used beat up one with the brass showing purchased in 1977 and a mint one from eBay last year. However the ultimate for me is my 645. Fantastic build quality, a viewfinder like a plasma telly and the most delicious sound, oh, and as a bonus the pictures are really quite good too.

Trust me guys, Ken cradles this thing like a baby, he loves it so much he even pointed it at me

Now I have to upset the apple cart by saying I loved my MZ5n but I think I loved my Olympus OM30 even more , but it was a rip off of the ME-F
