It's the "Sue Me Culture". During Health and Safety Training for a U.S. company we were told of a case were someone had successfully sued a Screwdriver maker following an eye injury because the instructions did not say don’t use it as a chisel.
The best one was a successful claim from someone who fell off the top of a ladder and won because the last rung did not have a sign to say “STOP”

I bought some minced beef in the supermarket which had a label saying 'ideal in recipes' - no chance of using it as a chisel then...
I saw some peanuts with the phrase 'contains nuts' - nuts indeed

...or the american that sued the manufacturer of his winabago (sp?) after it crashed.......he put it into cruise control and left the driving seat to make a cup of tea......

One of the more macabre - the old lady who dried her cat in the micro, and won because instructions did not explicitly say don't!
Some sides of American legislation is just plain ridiculous, but then we have the occassional good laugh.

i like the 'serving suggestions' pictures on food, etc. saw one on a carton of fruit juice the other day... it was of the juice in a glass. genius, i'd never have thought of that.
Pentax k1000, MX, ME Super, K5iiD 18-55, Tamron 70-300, Tamron 500 mirror, pentax 10-17, 50 1:4, a manual 28, some extension tubes and a bagful of memory cards. That's all i need... and a load of film cameras too... that's it, honest.

The old dear who squashed the cup of coffee between her legs at the drive through successfully sued McDonalds for $2,000,000!
One of my favourites was the American who sued a house rental company (successfully!), when he broke his neck when he dived into the pool, because there wasn't a sign up which said do not dive into the pool if there is no water in it!
You could use the lens for frying ants!
